Real N.D.N.
Native Diaspora Now

The Indigenous Arts Coalition (IAC) presents Real N.D.N: Native Diaspora Now. A provocative, multi-media exhibition, featuring a diverse array of Bay Area Native American artists. All answering and asking the question- Who is today’s real n.d.n.?
Aiming to reduce the classist vocabulary inherent in the word Indian, A false acronym (N.D.N.) with no real signifier is invented. In Real N.D.N. we infuse a contemporary retelling with a multi-native rationality to best suit our histories, morphologies, and identities.

Included in this exhibit will be filmmakers, painters, poets, photographers, performance and mixed-media artists. Alloffering a visual response to the challenging—and often controversial—questions: How do we represent community in our individualized practices and perspectives? How do percentages of Native blood divide and define us as individuals or as members of a community? What does it mean to have to prove you are your race through a number, certificate, skin color, or type of art that you make? What defines contemporary Native American art? Who are the judges?

Please join the dialogue. Real N.D.N is presented at Galeria de la Raza on Thursday // 7:30-10pm // August 16, 2012

In conjunction with this opening the Indigenous Arts Coalition will be launching its new website, designed to betterenhance the viewer’s experience with the group’s artists and the community. Reaching into digital frontiers our group will further expand the dialogue and awareness for Native American artists in the Bay Area.

IAC would like to thank Southern Exposure’s Alternative Exposure Grant Program and Galeria de la Raza’s GINAA program for supporting this exhibition.

The Indigenous Arts Coalition (IAC) was founded in 2008 with the primary goal of supporting and promoting contemporary Indigenous arts in the Bay Area.
